27 Bangladeshi trespassers return from India

Twenty-seven Bangladeshi citizens returned home last night after languishing more than two years in an Indian jail for trespassing.

Thirteen of them are from Bagerhat and the rest from Barisal, reports our Benapole correspondent quoting Nayek Subedar Abdul Haque, commander of the check post.

Indian police arrested them in August, 2011 after they had worked for nearly six months at a brick kiln in Kerala state of the country, Abdur Rahim, one of the returnees, told The Daily Star.

They did not have legal documents when Kerala police made the arrest, Rahim added.

Indian Border Security Force (BSF) handed over the Bangladeshis to Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) personnel at Benapole check post around 8:30pm last night.

Later, the BGB handed them over to Benapole Port Police Station.
